ATLANTA -- Buford softball guaranteed itself no worse than the No. 2 seed from Region 6-AA on Tuesday night, courtesy a 7-2 win over rivals Greater Atlanta Christian in the Region 6-AA tournament at Lovett in Atlanta.
The No. 1 ranked Lady Wolves (23-4) won their 11th straight game in the third round of the region tournament by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull out of a 1-1 tie.
Melissa Dickie (11-3) pitched 5 2/3 innings to earn the win, allowing six hits and striking out four. Karly Fullem pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief to earn her third save of the year.
Madyson Wynegar paced the Buford offense, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs, while Kodi Ricketson finished 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored. Kallie Case also drove in two runs, while Fullem had a double and an RBI.
Buford will play again at 6:30 p.m. Thursday for a region title against the winner of the GAC vs. Blessed Trinity game (which will be played at 5 p.m. Thursday). If Buford loses, another game would be played at 5 p.m. Friday in the double elimination tournament.
