Student killed in bus wreck identified

By The Associated Press
CARROLLTON - Authorities say a trainee driver of a school bus lost control along a rural west Georgia highway and overturned, killing a 17-year-old student and sending several others to the hospital.

The student killed yesterday is identified as James Rashawn Walker of Temple, a member of the football team.

The bus carrying 12 students from Temple High School was traveling south on Highway 113 between Temple and Carrollton, some 50 miles west of Atlanta, about 2 p.m. Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright says it left the road, crashed into a ditch and overturned.

Wright says the bus was driven by 59-year-old Kenneth Ross Herringdine of Roopville, a driver trainee.

Six patients were sent to three different hospitals.
