A House Not Yet Built

My face is as white as the fallen snow. I do not have any ancestors who were ever slaves. I have never been turned away from a restaurant, or a restroom for that matter, based on the color of my skin. I have never experienced racial prejudice and have never been stereotyped due to my race as far as I know. If I have ever sat on the back seat of a bus, it was my choice and not due to the instructions of someone else. I have never been told that I could not attend a learning institution due to the fact that I was white and have never had to sit in a balcony to watch a performance. I have never been black, brown, or any other color. I have always been and will always be white. Based on this introduction, it may seem odd to some that I have chosen to comment today on Martin Luther King, Jr., as his birth, life, and legacy is celebrated in our country this week. <br /> <br /> I am certainly not a scholar on Dr. King. In fact, far from it. I have read a few books and articles on him and have been exposed, through normal media outlets, to his life. But, despite my lack of academic learning on this man, I feel confident in speaking about him and the impact that he has had on this country. Iâ
