TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama All-America linebacker Rolando McClain has declared for the NFL draft.
This year's Butkus Award winner made the announcement Monday at a news conference in Tuscaloosa. An anchor of the defense for the national champion Crimson Tide, McClain said he would skip his senior season to turn pro.
He is projected as a first-round pick after leading the team with 105 tackles and 14.5 stops for loss. He also intercepted two passes and had four sacks.
McClain was the Tide's on-the-field coach, helping direct one of the nation's best defenses.
Alabama beat Texas last week to claim its first national title since the 1992 season.
