GAINESVILLE - A reception is planned Tuesday morning for Gainesville's incoming mayor and mayor pro-tem and newly re-elected councilman George Wangemann and City Council meetings will be televised starting Tuesday.

It will be held in the Georgia Mountains Center lobby between 8:15 and 9:00 when the council convenes for its annual organizational meeting.

Mayor Pro-Tem Ruth Bruner is scheduled to become the new mayor, succeeding Myrtle Figueras, who will remain on the City council. Councilman Danny Dunagan will become mayor pro-tem. Both positions are rotated every couple of years among council members.

TELEVISED MEETINGS

Also Tuesday, the city will begin televising its council meetings on a tape-delayed basis.

According to Communications and Tourism Director Catiel Felts, TV18 (The Government Channel) will replay regular meetings for seven consecutive days at 1:00 a.m., 4:00 a.m., 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The first replay will be the day of the meeting, 1:00 p.m. for 9:00 a.m. meetings (on the third Tuesdays) and 8:00 p.m. for 5:30 p.m. meetings (on the first Tuesdays).

Felts said in weeks when both the City Council and Hall County Commission meetings occur within the same week, the replays will alternate days. The first example of this condition will occur in April.
