Gateway Executive Director Jessica Butler said the grant will be used to provide services to children who have witnessed abuse at home and to provide occupational therapy services to victims.

"This grant couldn't have come at a better time for us," said Butler. "We have been very fortunate to have continued support from the community (during teh recession), but we are very grateful for receiving this grant this year."

The grant is one of 150 the Mary Kay Foundation is giving to domestic abuse programs around the country this year.

In 2008, Gateway provided services to 1,297 individuals fleeing abuse at home.
It also answered 3,185 crisis calls from victims, provided 6,126 guest nights in the shelter and assisted victims in obtaining 220 Temporary Protective Orders.
