BUFORD - Buford held a high-scoring Decatur offense to just 104 total yards in a dominating 28-0 win a key Region 6-AA matchup at Tom Riden Stadium Friday night.
Decatur (2-2, 0-1 Region 6-AA) came into the contest averaging nearly 30 points a game. But the Wolves defense never let the Bulldogs get going, forcing six Decatur turnovers and yielding just seven first downs.
The Buford offense, however, did not take advantage of the defense's stellar play, turning the ball over four times and managing just 176 yards rushing -- nearly 150 yards below its season average.
Buford (3-1, 1-1) led just 7-0 heading into the first quarter but got touchdown runs from Andrew Swope and Darrin Smith in the second quarter to take a 21-0 lead into halftime. The Wolves extended the lead in the third quarter on a scoring run from Jessel Curry but could not add to the lead.
Smith finished with 104 yards rushing and two touchdowns to lead Buford. Curry added 54 yards. Alexander Ross was 6-of-15 passing for 58 yards.
Buford next will travel to Avondale in another 6-AA battle.
