EPD fines Gainesville $11,000

GAINESVILLE - While not admitting to any wrongdoing, the City of Gainesville has signed an $11,000 consent order with EPD.

The fine was levied for the alleged improper disposal of sludge from the old Linwood treatment plant event though, according to Gainesville utilities director Kelly Randall, EPD has approved the proposal method of disposal.

Randall also said the contractor who disposed of it had certifications that it was being disposed of at a facility that met all state and federal guidelines.

"But, none the less," Randall added, "the state did come back and say that it was disposed of in a method that they weren't aware of."
