Lanier expected to peak at 1068.5 this weekend

MOBILE, Ala. - Lake Lanier - still reaping the benefits of this week's torrential rains - is expected to peak just 2.5 feet below full pool this weekend, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The level of Lanier early Wednesday was 1067.82, up another third-of-a-foot since early Tuesday.

That's still about 3.5 feet higher than it was a week ago... but well-above the levels during the recent prolonged drought.

Full pool is 1071.

The corps says it has implemented Flood Control Operations at Buford Dam... meaning releases for water supply and water quality have been curtailed and Lanier is now operating for one of its other primary missions - flood control.
