CLEVELAND - Revolutionary War soldier William Ferguson was honored Saturday as family and friends gathered at Mossy Creek Methodist Church Cemetery in White County for a dedication ceremony at his grave.
The event was conducted by the Joseph Habersham Chapter of the Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution and Tomochichi Chapter of the National Society daughters of the American Revolution. Â
About 100 people braved the threat of rain to honor Ferguson. He was born in Virginia and moved to what was then Habersham County, now White County, just before he died in 1834.
Following the ceremony, which included the reading of proclamations from the White County Commissioners and 10th District State Representative Rick Austin, family members unveiled a special grave marker. Â
