FLOWERY BRANCH - Week 3 proved to be the charm for several Cinderella teams looking to pull off the first major upsets of the 2009 prep football season.
Creekview, fresh off a win over Class AAAA playoff team Sequoyah last week, shocked Class AAA No. 3 Flowery Branch 38-35 at Falcons Field. The loss for the Falcons (2-1) snapped a six-game win streak at Falcons Field, where they had won 14 of their last 15 since the 2006 season.
Lovett, however, pulled off perhaps the biggest upset in the entire state knocking off Class AA No. 1 Buford 28-21, snapping the Wolves 32-game win streak. Buford came into the game having won 50 straight regular season games.
Class AAA No. 2-ranked Gainesville avoided any upset potential against White County jumping out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first five minutes en route to a 42-20 win in Cleveland.
In other Region 7-AAA action, Chestatee rallied from an early deficit to knock off Johnson 22-12 at home. Lumpkin County got its second win of the season in a 21-7 win over East Hall, and Gilmer beat West Hall 35-18 in Ellijay.
In Region 8-AA, Riverside Military Academy beat Rabun County 20-6 in the north Georgia mountains and Class AA seventh-ranked Jefferson survived a scare from Fannin County in a 42-27 win.
Lakeview Academy fell 31-7 to Hebron Christian on the road.
