ATLANTA - Class AA No. 1-ranked Buford won its eighth straight game Wednesday knocking off Class AAAAA Kell 4-0 in the Cobb/Gwinnett challenge series at Georgia Tech.
The Lady Wolves (11-3) again did it stellar pitching. Junior Melissa Dickie (3-1) got the win going four with two strikeouts and allowing just two hits. Junior Karly Fullem earned her third save of the season in relief pitching the final three innings allowing no hits and fanning four.
Buford started quickly with one run in the first inning and then added three more in the third. Junior Chelsie Thomas walked to lead off the Buford first and later scored on Lexi Overstreet grounded out to shortstop.
In the third inning, Overstreet was hit by a pitch to load up the bases for Fullem, who singled to left scoring Kallie Case and Alysha Rudnik. Overstreet later scored on an error by the Kell first baseman.
At the plate Fullem and Thomas each had two hits and case had one hit for the Lady Wolves.
Buford will jump back into its Region 6-AA schedule Thursday playing host to Greater Atlanta Christian.
