Spelman College student killed in Atlanta

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - A Spelman College student was hit by a stray bullet and killed early Thursday while walking with friends on the nearby campus of Clark Atlanta University, police reported.

Jasmine Lynn, 19, of Kansas City, Mo., was hit around 12:30 a.m. when shots were fired during a fight taking place nearby, Atlanta Police Lt. Keith Meadows said.

``One of the friends actually heard the gunshots, actually saw the weapon and told her to get on the ground,'' Meadows said. ``Before she was able to get on the ground she was struck in the chest by a stray round.''

Danays Marquez, a freshman at nearby Morris Brown College, said she heard at least five gunshots.

Meadows said security cameras ``probably captured the incident,'' but that police did not yet have a clear description of the shooter.

Meadows said an 18-year-old Clark Atlanta student also was wounded when he was hit in the wrist by a stray bullet and was being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital. Police have not released his name.
