Severe flooding in Toccoa, Douglasville areas

By Ken Stanford
UNDATED - Things have gone from bad to worse across north Georgia during the night as the rains continue... for a seventh day now.

More flash flood warnings have been posted, the latest for Hall, Barrow, Gwinnett, Banks and Jackson counties... good until 9:45 this morning, and for Habersham County until 9:00 this morning.

Severe flooding is reported in Toccoa where numerous roads are flooded and, as a result, schools will be closed today.

In addition, a broken water main is blamed on the flooding and that has prompted a Boil Water Advisory for customers of the Toccoa Water System. (See separate story.)

West of Atlanta, in Douglasville and surrounding areas, more severe flooding. Interstate 20 has been closed at various times overnight and this morning because of high waters. Some school systems in that area have called off classes for the day including those in Paulding, Carroll, and Douglas counties.

Gwinnett County firefighters have been busy with numerous requests for rescue and assistance with houses flooding and vehicles stuck in water on the roadways... most of them in the Lilburn and Snellville areas.

The National Weather Service has extended the Flash Flood Watch again, through Tuesday morning.
