Softball: Lady Wolves win Buford Invitational title

BUFORD - The Buford girls softball team won the Gold division of the Buford Invitational Tournament with three wins on Saturday.

The Lady Wolves pounded 32 hits and outscored Providence Christian Academy, North Hall, and Union County 22-2 combine to earn the tournament title. Buford (9-3) has won six straight.

Buford beat Providence 8-0 behind pitcher Karly Fullem, who went six innings with six strikeouts, one walk, and allowed just two hits. Fullem had three hits and one RBI and Alysha Rudnik had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI. Kallie Case had two hits for Buford.

The Lady Wolves then knocked off North Hall 5-0 with Melissa Dickie getting the win going the distance and striking out 11 with just one walk and two hits allowed. Whitney Wolfe and Madison Wynegar each had two hits for Buford and Lexi Overstreet had a doube and two RBI.

Buford closed out the tournament with a 9-2 win over Union County. Fullem earned the win going four innings pitched. Dickie came on in the fifth and pitched the final three innings to get the save.

Rudnik had a hge game with two hits, including a home run and four RBI for Buford. Samantha Ramey had two hits and Chelsie Thomas had one hit and two RBI for the Lay Wolves.

Buford next will play on Wednesday at the University of Georgia against Oconee County. It is the second matchup of the season between the two state champions. Buford won the Class AA title last year and Oconee is the reigning Class AAA champ. Buford won the first meeting 6-2 last week.
