Rodney King will live in infamy based on actions that he probably never actually planned. I would bet that he also wishes, except for a nice civil lawsuit payout, that it had never occurred. Nonetheless, the amateur video depiction of that incident on March 3, 1991 will live forever in the minds of many. After it was over, Harris sashayed up to the microphone, and according to his statement he just wanted everyone to get along. We now know that this incident was far from over regarding anyone getting along. Many trials, lawsuits, and race riots would follow. This case was the beginning of many more such incidents where video evidence would be used against police officers who appeared to go well beyond the amount of force necessary to secure the arrest.
