'Bama reports after offseason attrition

By The Associated Press
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama coach Nick Saban says four players have been dismissed for violating team rules.

Linebackers Brandon Fanney and Prince Hall, defensive back Alonzo Lawrence and running back Jermaine Preyear weren't on the roster released Wednesday, when the team reported for fall camp.

Charlie Higgenbotham and Chris Jackson have already transferred while four reserves left for medical reasons.

Saban said the most important mission of fall camp is not finding a starting left tackle or a backup quarterback. He said it's cultivating the intangible things like focus and discipline.

Running back signee Eddie Lacy got word from the NCAA clearinghouse that he was eligible on Wednesday.

The veterans will open practice Thursday morning and the newcomers will work separately in the evening.
