Padgett: Gainesville holding its own

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - Gainesville may have had to lay some people off because of the recession but the city is holding its own and is in much better shape than many local governments in the country, according to city manager Kip Padgett.

Padgett spoke Tuesday to the Gainesville Kiwanis Club.

Padgett noted that the city has not had to schedule any mandatory unpaid furloughs although revenues continue to run below expectations. However, Padgett said sales tax income is improving.

He added that the Frances Meadows Aquatic Center and the Chattahooche Golf Course are doing better financially.
