HIAWASSEE - The recession has been good for attendance at the Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawasse this year.
General Manager Hilda Thomason says they expect about 53,000 for all ten days compared to 46,000 last year.
Thomason says good weather and people staying closer to home for entertainment because of the economy have helped contribute to the big crowds. She says in anticipation that crowds might be bigger this year, they ordered extra supplies... such as food, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.
This year's Georgia Mountain Fair ends Saturday... and plans are already underway for some special added attractions next year which will be the fair's 60th anniversary.
