School buses vandalized

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
OAKWOOD - Fifteen Hall County school buses, parked at Johnson High School for the summer, were vandalized overnight Tuesday.

School system spokesman Gordon Higgins says the damage was discovered early Wednesday morning. Higgins says the buses were parked at the school, which is adjacent to the school system bus shop, for routine summertime servicing because there was not enough room for them at the bus shop.

Higgins said the kinds of vandalism varied. He said every seat on two of the buses had been slashed with a knife or some other sharp object, tail light covers were stolen from five buses, and several of the buses had been spray-painted with messages such as "we'll be back." On many of the buses, he said, the electrical systems had been broken into and relays were stolen.

Higgins said the school system is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the vandals.
