GAINESVILLE - Free HIV testing will be administered at two locations Saturday by the North Georgia AIDS Alliance (NGAA) in conjunction with National HIV Testing Day. These are in addition to the previously announced site.

The NGAA will offer free, rapid HIV testing at its main office, 615 Oak Street, Gainesville, 11:00-4:00, and at Clinica San Lucas, 1631 Atlanta Highway, Gainesville, 8:00-3:00.

No appointment is necessary. Testing results provided in 20 minutes.

As previously reported, free testing - adminsitered by state health officials - will also be available Saturday at the Good News Shelter. The hours there will bee 9:00-1:00.

Recently, the Center's for Disease Control (CDC) recommended that everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 be tested for HIV as a part of their routine medical care. The CDC also recommended that pregnant women get tested within the early months of each pregnancy in order to eliminate the spread of the virus to infants. These recommendations come as result of the statistic that show that 1 out 5 people infected with the virus do not know it.

Georgia still ranks 8th for AIDS cases in the nation.

The North Georgia AIDS Alliance also offers free rapid HIV testing services on a regular basis, by appointment, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9:00-4:00.
