WINDER - The Winder Police Department is in the running for a top award from the Georgia Association of Police Chiefs.

The Motorola/Dr. Curtis McClung Award of Excellence is presented each year to an agency that develops and initiates an innovative program that has an impact on the community, the department, and law enforcement as a profession.

The Winder Police Department was nominated for "Cop Talk," a law enforcement education and information program which airs on the the local government access channel in Winder.

Nominations are open to over 500 municipal agencies throughout the state of Georgia. Three finalists are chosen by the association's executive Board.

The winner will be announced July 13 at the group's annual convention in Savannah.
