ATLANTA - Another college student has been robbed at gunpoint at the same apartment complex near Georgia Tech for the second day in a row.
Eric Mills is a student at University of Phoenix, a national college with six campuses in the Atlanta area.
Mills said he was walking to his apartment in the Centennial Place complex about 1 a.m. Wednesday when he was attacked by two men wearing masks, and one was armed.
He said they asked for his phone, but he threw his backpack down and told them it contained his laptop. They later took the backpack after the man with the gun threatened to shoot Mills. Eventually several cars showed up and the men got back in their car and left.
It's the sixth time in recent weeks that students have been robbed near the Tech campus and occurred just hours after police announced that they had charged three people in connection with the robbery/shooting of a Tech student two weeks ago. All three have been in jail for two weeks on unrelated charges.
Atlanta police also say they have stepped up patrols around the Tech campus. At a news conference Tuesday, police and university officials said they do not believe college students are being targeted but are simply more likely to be out at night when robbers commonly strike.
