NEW YORK - Investors are holding off making big moves while they wait for the Federal Reserve.
Stocks are ending mixed but little changed Tuesday, one day after a selloff. Traders are looking for the central bank to outline its expectations for the economy and signal when it might raise interest rates.
The Fed's two-day meeting ends Wednesday.
According to preliminary calculations, the Dow Jones industrial average is down 16 to 8,323. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index is up 2 to 895 and the Nasdaq composite index is down 1 to 1,765.
About eight stocks fell for every seven that rose on the New York Stock Exchange, where volume came to 1.2 billion shares.
