Gainesville - For over 10 years, the Azalea Garden Club has been planting, twice a year, the four flower boxes at the Post Office on Green Street in Gainesville. Club members include new plants on the market and combine colors, textures and shapes of plants so that people can see how to create a beautiful flower garden in their own yards.
The garden club holds an annual fundraiser with proceeds used to purchase supplies for the project. The Azalea Garden Club is 71 years old, and the first president was Mrs. M.J. Bowers. The club has 22 members; many having served over 25 years. Frances Miller Haynes, the longest serving member, joined the club in 1940, and she is still a vibrant member at the age of 95!
