Wolfpack to face Vols in 2012 opener

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA -- Tennessee and North Carolina State will meet for the first time since 1939 when they open their 2012 seasons in the Georgia Dome.

Tennessee and N.C. State have split the only two games they have played before continuing the tradition of a Southeastern Conference team facing an Atlantic Coast Conference team in the season-opening game called the Chick-fil-A College Kickoff.

The game, scheduled for Sept. 1, 2012, is organized by the Chick-fil-A Bowl committee and was called ``the Daytona 500 of college football,'' by bowl president Gary Stokan, who announced the matchup on Thursday.

Tickets will be split evenly between the two schools.

Alabama will play Virginia Tech in this year's opener on Sept. 5.

Alabama beat Clemson before a sellout crowd of 70,097 in the 2008 game.
