Meeting to explore high-speed rail options

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - A meeting in Gainesville next month will explore high-speed rail options for the Gainesville area.

Results of a feasibility study, released last year, will be discussed. It envisions a high-speed commuter rail network from Macon to Atlanta to Gainesville, Toccoa and Charlotte... along the corridor that now used by Amtrak and Norfolk Southern.

The meeting will address the study's findings and look at the next steps.

The meeting, on June 10 from 10:00-11:00, will be hosted by the Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization. It will be held at the Frances Meadows Center.

Speakers will include Erik Steavens, Director, Intermodal Programs Division, Georgia Department of Transportation.
