KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Former University of Tennessee basketball guard Ramar Smith has surrendered to police in the investigation of a home invasion robbery.
Knox County Jail Officer Betty Shelton told The Associated Press that Smith turned himself in early Thursday on a charge of aggravated robbery.
The 22-year-old Smith was charged in a Monday night home invasion at an apartment complex in Knoxville.
Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl dismissed Smith, a native of Mount Clemens, Mich., after the 2007-08 season. He averaged 7.4 points and 3.2 assists per game that season, but Pearl said he failed to meet expectations off the court.
Smith was held Thursday morning in lieu of $15,000 bond.
