Father of 9/11 victim dies

GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville man, who lost a daughter in the 9/11 attacks, has died.

Rev. Eddie Stephens was a well-known minister in parts of northeast Georgia.

He pastored churches in Lumpkin County, Commerce, Homer, and Royston, among other places, including Lavonia, where he served at New Hope Franklin Baptist for 38 years.

Rev. Stephens, who was 88, was the father of Gainesville native Edna Stephens, who perished at the Pentagon during the 9/11 attacks.

He died Saturday at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness. (A complete obituary can be found on the obituaries page of this Web site.)
