WASHINGTON - Hall County's population increased by almost 6,194 between July 2007 and last July... and is now put at 184,814. And, the growth rate is slowing in most counties in the Gainesville area.

That's according to the latest population estimates which were released by the Census Bureau Thursday morning.

Gwinnett's population increased by almost double what Hall's did and is now put at 789,499. Forsyth County added almost as many new residents as Gwinnett... nearly 10,000. Elsewhere in the Gainesville area, the increase in Jackson County was around 2,600 and in Lumpkin, roughly 500. In White County, the increase was around 350.

The slowing of the population growth rate in our area is apparently fueled by a decline in the number of new Hispanic residents... something that was true in most of the country. (See separate story.)
