Burglars arrested; loot still missing

GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Police Department has arrested two teenagers, charging them with a noontime break-in at a house on Juniper Court earlier this week.

The burglary occurred Monday about 11:35 a.m.

Lt. Brian Kelly said that when officers responded to the home after getting a call about the incident, they were told by a neighbor that "several Hispanic males had been observed running from the location carrying several items. The officers checked the home and found that the rear door had been forcibly entered and that no one was home. The officers deployed a police canine in the area and located an individual who fit the description of one of the suspects."

Kelly said he was taken into custody and following a subsequent interview by investigators, it was determined that he was involved in the burglary.

"Investigators were also able to identify a second subject involved in the burglary. The second subject was taken into custody without incident yesterday morning (Tuesday)."

Lt. Kelly said the homeowner reported that approximately $2,600 worth of electronics equipment was stolen during the burglary. "At this time," Kelly said, "the stolen property has not been located."

Kelly said Gustavo Rodriguez, 17, Gainesville, has been charged with one count of burglary, as has a 16-year-old juvenile male, whose name was not released because of his age.

"The incident is still under investigation to determine if any other individuals are involved and to attempt to recover the stolen property," Lt. Kelly said. "Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Gainesville Police Departmentâ
