Son of local legend wins first race at LNS

By staff reports
BRASELTON - Most 13-year-olds would be spending their weekends playing outside or hanging out with friends.

No so for Chase Elliott. The son of race legend Bill Elliot of Dawsonville instead has been speeding around Lanier National Speedway in a race car at nearly 100 miles per hour.

Saturday, Elliott won his first-ever race taking the checkered flag in Georgia Asphalt Series at LNS.

Elliott had qualified second behind Casey Roderick in the Pro-Late Model Division. The pair stayed one and two through four cautions in the 100 lap event before Elliott made his move on the inside of turn three on lap 97. He took the lead at the start/finish line and held on to win the first of six GAS events to be held this year at LNS.

Casey Roderick finished second followed by Paul Kelly (3rd), Greg Simpson (4th) and Jeremy Rice (5th).

In other action at LNS Saturday night:

Brian Huff won a caution plagued Super Truck event; Jason Bates won in Open Wheel Modified; and Jeff Chadwick took the Sportman Division race.

Mike Davidson won his second straight Iceman Division race; Steve Hill won the Mini Stock Division; and Mike Childers took this third straight Street Stock race.

In Legends racing, Steven Ross of Stanford, N.C., won the pro division, Larry Friddle won the Masters division, and 13-year-old Kyle Plott of Marietta won the semi pro division.

All finals are subject to post-race inspection.
