Student athletes from closed school won't play in tourneys

By The Associated Press
McDONOUGH - Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials have ordered that student athletes at a suburban Atlanta private school closed because of swine flu not participate in upcoming tournaments.

Tim Dowdy, head of Eagle's Landing Christian Academy, tells WXIA-TV that the track and baseball teams will miss regional and state playoffs scheduled for this week. He said the decision is understandable but "heart-breaking for our students."

Health officials confirmed Monday that a 14-year-old student at the academy has swine flu.

It's the second confirmed case of swine flu in Georgia. A 30-year-old Kentucky woman was hospitalized in LaGrange while attending a wedding, though she is counted as a Kentucky case by the CDC. Health officials also believe three other cases in Georgia may be swine flu, although there's been no confirmation at this point.
