Cessna cuts jobs in Columbus

By The Associated Press
COLUMBUS - Cessna Aircraft, which is trimming employment nationwide and closing an Oregon plant, has notified 89 workers in Columbus that their jobs will be eliminated in two months.

Cessna spokesman Doug Oliver said the company will be reducing production this year from 375 business jets to 325. The Wichita, Kan.-based company announced the layoffs of about 1,600 workers on Wednesday.

The airplane manufacturer previously announced it was laying off 100 employees in Columbus and those jobs would be gone by the end of March. Oliver says that by the end of June, the company will be down to about 450 employees.
