NGT enrollment jumps nearly 25 percent

ATLANTA - North Georgia Tech in Clarkesville led technical colleges in the Gainesville area in spring student enrollment increases this year.

NGT saw its enrollment jump 24.7 percent. Lanier Tech was next at 17.9 percent, followed by Gwinnett Tech, at eleven percent. Overall, the state reports a 15 percent spike in technical college enrollment compared with a year ago.

Technical College of Georgia spokesman Mike Light said enrollment at Georgia's 33 technical colleges jumped to 90,000 this spring, up more than 12,000 students from last year. Ten of the campuses reported growth of 20 percent or more in that time period.

It's the second highest enrollment in the system's history. The highest was in 2003 when technical colleges enrolled more than 91,000 students.
