Gwinnett considers changes in pet laws

LAWRENCEVILLE - As Forsyth County considers an ordinance to ban the tethering of pets, Gwinnett County is moving to make the practice acceptable in some cases.

Gwinnett's animal advisory council has recommended allowing the supervised tethering of pets during daylight hours, according to published reports. The revised ordinance also okays unsupervised tethering for one hour.

In addition, the council is recommending that the county's barking ordinance be revised to elimnate a jail sentence for owners of barking dogs.

The County Commission still has to approve the changes.

Forsyth County officials will consider a tethering ban at a meeting on May 7. the city of Gainesville has prohibited the tieing of pets since 2007.
