Baseball: Indians win 12th straight in slugfest over West Hall

OAKWOOD -- Class AAA No. 6 Lumpkin County survived a wild 14-11 slugfest Thursday against West Hall to stay within one game of No. 3 Creekview for first place in Region 7-AAA.

The Indians (17-1, 15-1 in region) have now won 12 straight and will play host to Gainesville Friday in a big region game for both teams. Gainesville is three games out of fourth place in the region standings with just eight games left in the regular season. Lumpkin is scheduled to take on Creekview next Tuesday at home in an anticipated battle for first place.

Against West Hall, Lumpkin County had just seven hits but made the most of them. Will Anderson had two hits and four stolen bases and scored four runs to spark the offense. Chad Fulton had two hits and two RBI. Jonathan Whitehead had one hit and two RBI, Tyler Trammel had one hit and one RBI, and Kyle Lovell had a key two-run home run for the Indians.

Brandon Grindle led West Hall (7-10, 5-10) with three hits. Max Everitt had two hits and three RBI, including a two-run home run in the seventh. Chad Goff had two hits for the Spartans.
