Savannah-based Gulfstream furloughs 170 workers

By The Associated Press
SAVANNAH - A Georgia aircraft maker says another 170 production workers at its Savannah plant have been placed on a two-week furlough.

A spokesman for Gulfstream Aerospace, Robert Baugniet, said Monday the furloughs will run through April 19. He says the company is experiencing delays in shipments from suppliers, which has slowed production on its flagship business jet, the Gulfstream G650.

The company previously announced in March it would furlough at least 1,500 employees for five weeks starting in July because of slowing sales of business jets.

Meanwhile, work continues at the Savannah plant on Gulfstream's four other large-cabin business jets.

Gulfstream Aerospace is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics Corp.
