UNDATED - The winds did not die down during the night as we had expected and that may have been the saving grace if you didn't bring inside or at least cover the tender vegetation in your yard.
The winds likely helped blunt any damage done to those plants and flowers but we are not out of the woods yet. A freeze warning has been issued for north and central Georgia for tonight.
As for the winds, another side effect is falling trees... their root systems weakened by grounds saturated by recent rains and still trying to recover from the effects of the drought, and there were numerous reports of downed trees across north Georgia yesterday and last night. The wind advisory has been extended for at least another day and the windy weather is being blamed for a power outage in the Rabbittown area of East Hall this morning.
In the mountains of north Georgia overnight, there was a dusting of snow in some places that made for treacherous travel at times, especially on bridges and overpasses.
