Gainesville's Sims commits to Alabama

GAINESVILLE -- Gainesville High quarterback Blake Sims has committed to play football for the University of Alabama.

The junior gave a verbal commitment to the Crimson Tide on Saturday during a visit to Tuscaloosa.

Sims, who led the Red Elephants to the Class AAA quarterfinals last season while passing for 2,453 yards and rushing for 822, picked Alabama over nine other scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Georgia, FSU and Michigan.

Sims' commitment is non-binding until he signs a letter of intent next February.
