GALEO among immigration advocates in DC this week

By Staff
WASHINGTON - The Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials (GALEO) will be a part this week of a 100-day lobbying effort in Congress focusing on immigration reform, the economy and healthcare.

Jerry Gonzalez, Executive Director of the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials (GALEO) will be a part of the Campaign for Community Values first 100 days strategy.

"We have a unique opportunity to play a decisive role in national policy," Gonzalez said. "As Congress continues its efforts to draft immigration reform, we need to emphasize that we need workable solutions that uphold our values as Americans and help us move forward together as a nation."

The strategy began on January 26, six days after President Obama was inaugurated, and has continued every Tuesday since then. Each week, at least ten community organizers have been converging on Washington DC to advance efforts to reform immigration, ensure equity in the economic stimulus and address the concerns of many Americans about the troubles within our healthcare system.

"As part of the 100 day strategy, we will advocate for an immediate stop to workplace raids that are tearing families apart and urge for the passage of humane, efficient, enforceable and effective immigration reform. Only when all workers are out of the shadows and all workers are offered labor protections will our economy truly begin to rebound," said Jerry Gonzalez.

Gonzalez will be posting blogs on www.This WorldNow.com during the trip to update local community members about the progress.
