CUMMING - A recent undercover operation has resulted in six persons being charged with selling alcoholic beverages to minors, Sheriff Ted Paxton said Friday.
The operation, which took place on Saturday, February 21, involved an undercover deputy in plain clothes, a uniformed deputy and a person under the age of 21. According to authorities, the underage person and the deputy in plain clothes entered the businesses and the underage person would attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages. If the sale was made, the two would leave the store and a uniformed deputy would enter and issue a citation to the clerk who made the sale.
A total of 13 businesses were checked and underage sales were made in six of the stores. In addition, a seventh person was charged with not being properly permitted to sell alcoholic beverages.
Those cited for the underage sales will appear before Magistrate Court. In addition, each licensee will have to appear at an administrative hearing before the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners. Repeated offenses could possibly result in suspension or revocation of the business license to sell alcoholic beverages.
