Dawson County Recycling Center back in business

DAWSONVILLE - The Dawson County Recycling Center is back in business.

Dawson County spokeswoman Cathy Brooks said while the center never actually closed, it did have to stop taking most materials for several months due to financial losses.

"Last year our recycling program lost nearly $38,000," she said.

Brooks said this year they'll be able to offset that cost completely and be able to increase the types of materials that can be recycled.

"That was made possible with an agreement that we have with Community Waste Services (CWS) out of Alpharetta," said Brooks.

She said CWS will not only provide collection of the Dawson County materials, but also has contributed a container for the recycling center and collection roll carts for government facilities.

County Manager Kevin Tanner said they new partnership will also benefit taxpayers.

"The new program will save the county and Dawson County taxpayers an estimated $20,000 during the first year and $38,000 during year two," he said.

The recycling center will accept glass bottles and jars; newspaper; plastic containers #1 through #7; aluminum, steel and tin cans; chipboard such as cereal boxes; cardboard; and magazines, phone books and junk mail.
