ATLANTA - Georgia lost 150,000 jobs from January 2008 to January 2009, with Dalton, Atlanta and Gainesville leading the way.

State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond says the losses were concentrated in no particular sector but ran the gamut from manufacturing to warehousing to temporary employment agencies.

Of the state's eleven metropolitan areas, Dalton lost 5,800 jobs, a 7.6 percent change from January '08 to January '09; Atlanta lost 91,300, a 3.8 percent change; and Gainesville lost 1,900, for a 2.4 percent change.

Athens actually added jobs during the period, 100 of them. The fewest job losses were in Macon, 600, and Columbus, with 1,100.
