ATLANTA - A Gainesville man was sentenced Wednesday to federal prison for enticing a child.
According to Assistant United States Attorney Francey Hakes, Kenneth C. Chase, 63, of Gainesville, was sentenced to 15 years, eight months in prison to be followed by a lifetime of supervised release.
"We think that 15 years and eight months for a crime like this where the defendant arranged to have various kinds of sexual activity with a very young girl of only 11 years old is merited and is deserved," said Hakes.
In February 2008, authorities said an undercover FBI agent was approached by Chase in an online chat room devoted to the topic of sex with children. Chase arranged a meeting with the undercover agent at the Mall of Georgia where he said he planned to engage in sexual activities with a minor. That's where officials said he was arrested in March 2008.
Hakes said Chase, who worked at a motorcycle shop in Daholenga, was convicted by a jury in November 2008 of using a computer to entice a child.
