ATLANTA - Weekly unemployment checks in Georgia are going up by $25, thanks to new federal stimulus money.
That means the average weekly check will now total $292.
State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond is urging the governor to accept more federal funds to help prop up the state's unemployment insurance fund.
The governor still going over the details of the economic stimulus plan, but a spokesman says he will accept a portion of the money because it comes at no cost to the state.
The governor is concerned about accepting all that the White House is offering because, he says, of strings attached to some of the funding.
