JEFFERSON - A 16-year-old Jefferson boy is hospitalized at Grady Hospital in Atlanta with second and third degree burns, following a fire at a home at 74 Mahaffey Circle.
Jefferson Assistant Fire Chief Mark Duke says the Georgia Fire Marshal's office is assisting with an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Duke says it appears the fire might be related to cooking, since the kitchen of the home was on fire at the time firefighters arrived just after 12:50 p.m. Sunday.
The teenager was outside the home, according to Duke, and had either extinguished the fire on his body by himself or with the help of a neighbor. Again, Duke noted that the investigation is still underway, and more details will be available at a later date.
