GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville City Council has voted to pull out of the downtown Main Street Gainesville program and start its own Main Street program.
A resolution passed by the Council Tuesday would allow the Main Street Manager position to be added to the Fiscal Year 2010 budget, according to City Manager Kip Padgett.
Padgett told the Council hotel-motel taxes would be used to help fund the position.
The vote was unanimous, 5-0, for Gainesville to create its own Main Street program.
