13 die on Ga. roads over holiday weekend; Buford victim ID'd

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - The Georgia State Patrol says 13 deaths were reported on state highways during Thanksgiving weekend... including two in northeast Georgia, the latest of those in a wreck in Buford Sunday night.

The State Patrol had predicted 16 deaths in crashes during the 102-hour holiday period, which began at 6 p.m. Wednesday and ended at midnight Sunday.

State officials say 3,089 crashes were reported, resulting in 730 injuries.

Those numbers are below the 3,570 accidents and 1,398 injuries predicted.
During the same period in 2008, 19 people died on Georgia roads, and 3,815 accidents caused 1,457 injuries.

Meanwhile, Gwinnett County police have identified the teenager killed in a wreck Sunday night on South Bogan Road in Buford as Triston Sadler, 18, of Buford. They says he died when he was thrown from his overturning car about 8:45. Two passengers - Vernon Thomas and Ashtyn Roper, both also 17 and both from Buford - were injured but not seriously, according to police.

And, the funeral is scheduled Tuesday for the other northeast Georgia victim - Erin Elizabeth Pritchett, 22, Gainesville. Pritchett died early Saturday when her car wreck on Glade Farm Road north of Gainesville. She was the daughter of former East Hall High School girls' basketball coach Allen Pritchett. Her funeral will be at 11:00 Tuesday at Memorial Park North-Riverside Funeral Home in Gainesville.
