Boys basketball: West Hall holds off Chestatee

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter
OAKWOOD - West Hall built a big first half lead and then held off a Chestatee fourth quarter rally for a 66-56 win Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams.

The Spartans used an 18-9 second quarter to run out to a 34-21 halftime lead. They increased it 50-36 heading into the fourth quarter behind the shooting of Dylan Bartlett.

Chestatee got as close as eight points in the fourth quarter but West Hall held on down the stretch.

"I thought we played pretty well for it being the first game," West Hall coach Warren Sellers said. "This was a good test for us. We did some good things on offense but we'll need to improve on our defense."

Bartlett finished with 20 points to pace the Spartans (1-0). Jarquise Young added 16 and Manny Mata had 10 for West Hall.

Preston Smith led Chestatee (0-1) with 19 points.

West Hall next will play Cedar Shoals on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the East Jackson Tournament.

Chestatee will travel to Woodstock on Friday.
